About Me

My photo
My name is not really Erica Stevens, it is a pen name that I chose in memory of two amazing friends lost too soon.I was born in New York and moved to Mass as a child. I spent my time growing up between NY and Mass so I have some interesting times when sports games roll around. I was fortunate enough to marry my best friend over two years ago and I don't know what I'd do without him. I have a large, crazy, fun loving family that just loves to laugh. My parents are the strongest people I know. I have an older brother and sister, and a younger sister, who have blessed me with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. I am nowhere near as old as the great nieces and nephews make me sound. I love to read and have wanted to be a writer since I was nine years old. I also write more adult romance novels under the pen name of Brenda K. Davies.

The Final Vengeance Teasers!

Teaser #11 for Vengeance (The Captive Series, Book 6) Coming December 29th! Only one more day until release!
The man glanced nervously at his friends. His heartbeat kicked up, it beat more loudly in William’s hypersensitive ears, causing his fangs to tingle more. The foul stench of panic wafted off the human as beads of sweat broke out across his forehead. “Ye… Yes,” he stammered out.
William bit into his wrist. He moved so fast from his chair the man never had a chance to react before William jerked his head back by his hair and held his wrist over the man’s mouth. Beads of blood plopped onto his lips and chin. His lips clamped together to keep from swallowing the blood.
Bending low, William almost rested his chin on the man’s shoulder as he spoke, “Now, with the knowledge I can track you anywhere if I force my blood into you, are you going to stick with that story?”
“Hey now…” the one vampire at the table started.
“Stay out of this!” William snarled at him. The vampire’s mouth shut as he quickly settled back into the chair he’d half risen from. The eyes of the human William held slid toward him but his head didn’t move an inch. “Are you going to stick with your story?”

Teaser #14

William spun toward the shadows as Kane bolted toward him with his shoulders down. William swung his spear up, prepared to drive it into Kane’s back. At the last second, Kane rose up and threw his spear at him. William dodged to the side but not in time to avoid having the spear tip plunge into his shoulder and burst out the other side.
He bit back a shout of pain, afraid to draw Tempest’s attention to the fight again, but he couldn’t keep back a grunt from the force of the impact. Turning back to face Kane, he didn’t have time to get out of the way as the vampire hurtled across the earth and dove at him. William stumbled back. He realized too late that he’d been standing near the entrance of the cave. With another violent shove from Kane, he lost what was left of his balance and toppled over the edge of the cliff.

Teaser #6

Teaser #7

The shouts resounding down the street pierced the night and pulled her from her sleep. Blinking in confusion, Tempest stared at the wall across from her as she tried to figure out what was going on. More shouts filled the street outside of her window. The last remnants of sleep slid away from her, leaving her troubled as she stared at the shadows the candle cast on the wall.
She’d lived in the town of Badwin her entire life, never once had she been roused from sleep in the middle of the night by yelling. Not even when the new king’s war had been going on had there been such commotion on the road.
Light, from what she assumed were torches, bounced across the wall, drowning out the candle’s flame and chasing away some of the shadows. Rolling over, she tossed aside her blankets and rose to her feet. The worn floor rug muffled her steps, her nightgown brushed against her ankles as she walked.
She didn’t bother to grab the half-burned candle on her nightstand; she didn’t want anyone to know she approached the window. Chilly air had found its way through the multiple cracks around the window; it flowed over her skin as she cautiously approached the old, warped frame. Goosebumps broke out on her flesh, but she ignored them as she peered out the window.
Beneath her, on the snow covered street a dozen horses and men had gathered. All of them wore white cloaks and had their hoods pulled up against the wintry air. The animals pranced back and forth restlessly, the breath pluming from their nostrils curled up in thick waves toward the sky. Their hooves kicked up snow around them as the group of riders tried to keep the animals steady.

Vengeance, Teaser #2

“We can,” the next man through the door told her. “We’ll be staying in this town for some time. All residents will have to make room for us.”
“What?” she blurted. “Is this for the king?”
He released a disgusted snort and moved aside to let the last man in. Tempest managed to keep her mouth from dropping open when her eyes latched onto the ugly vampire who stepped through the door. A jagged scar started at the edge of his close-cropped hairline, it curved to his right ear before going to his chin and curling back up toward his thin lips. His beady hazel eyes surveyed her with cool disdain. He was only a couple of inches taller than she was, but his stocky frame took up almost the entire doorway. His nose had to have been broken numerous times over the years as it now sat in a permanently crooked position.

“This is for the queen,” he told her brusquely.

Frost Burn is now live!

Frost Burn (The Fire & Ice Series, Book 1) is now live everywhere ebooks are sold! If you enjoyed Julian in The Kindred Series than you'll love him in his own series! He's still every bit the cocky guy he was before, but he's about to meet his match in Quinn, a mysterious woman who's not afraid to put him in his place! You do not have to have read The Kindred Series in order to follow this one. It is more mature than The Kindred Series and recommended for 17+

"I can assure... you Dewdrop, I am one hundred percent natural. I was simply blessed with these abnormally striking good looks.” Well no one could ever accuse him of having no self-confidence or being shy, Quinn realized. “I can always prove I’m a natural blond if you’d like me to,” he added with a suggestive waggle of his eyebrows. ~Julian

Teaser 5 from Frost Burn

Over the tick of the clock and the hum of the cooler, she heard a board squeak in the kitchen. She stiffened as she realized the ‘we’ he spoke of a moment ago had arrived through the backdoor. One of the kitchen doors swung open and the first of five more vamps stepped into the main barroom.
They wanted her alive, but what they wanted her alive for, and what... they might force her to do, was more than enough for her to decide she’d prefer to be dead. Jerking her arm back, she let her stake fly with deadly accuracy at the first vamp who had walked through the swinging door. She had no shot of hitting the one she’d been speaking with, but these five weren’t completely prepared for her. They would be now as the stake found its intended target and the vampire let out a howl. The stricken vamp fell back, his fingers grasped frantically at the stake embedded deep within his heart. Even if he pulled it free, it was too late for him; his life was over.
Without missing a step, she bent low and tugged the two remaining stakes from her boots. She wouldn’t be able to throw these, but if they got close enough to her she would make them rethink ever trying to touch her again. She rose back to her full height just as one of the others tossed aside their dead friend and hefted a barstool over his head.

Teaser 4 from Frost Burn

“You have instincts Quinn, what are they telling you?”
“That I should run as far from you as possible.”
Her blunt answer caused his eyebrow to rise. “Why?”
“Deep down I don’t believe you’re a killer, anymore, but you were once and you scare the crap out me.”
    “I’m not frightening.”
“You’re terrifying. The way you make me feel, the things I’ve told you. You barged into my life, you tore it apart and I don’t know what to think or do anymore.”
He’d been steadily approaching her while she spoke. She went to step away from him, but he clasped hold of her wrist. “Do you really find me terrifying?” he inquired as he tugged her up against his chest. Her eyes were the color of gold as she tilted her head back her lips parted. His fingers entwined with hers, he pulled her arm gently up and behind her back.
Excitement pulsed through his body; he took a step back, pressing her against the wall. “Julian.” The husky whisper of the word only electrified his skin further.
He rested his hand beside her head and bent to look into her eyes. “Am I really that frightening, Quinn?”
    “Yes,” she whispered.

Teaser 3 from Frost Burn

Quinn had been hoping she’d be wrong and Julian wouldn’t be sitting in her hallway. However, it hadn’t surprised her to see him there. She felt his eyes burning into her as she walked around him. She resented that he’d inserted himself into her life but she had to admit he looked more delicious than any peanut butter cup right now.
His hair was tussled; a shadow lined his square jaw. His icy eyes were sleep h...eavy but the predatory gleam in them made her body quicken in response. She was supposed to be staying as far from this man as possible, not admiring him.
“Is your hair dyed?” she blurted. It was the most inane question but it had been meant as a way to distract herself from the urge to jump him.
He frowned as he ran a hand through his platinum blond hair. “Do I look like the kind of guy who would dye his hair?”
“You look like the kind of guy who would rip off someone’s head and use it as a soccer ball so I imagine you’d be up for anything.”
A smirk curved his luscious mouth. “I can assure you Dewdrop, I’m not much for soccer but I am one hundred percent natural. I was simply blessed with these abnormally striking good looks.” Well no one could ever accuse him of having no self-confidence or being shy, she realized. “I can always prove I’m a natural blond if you’d like me to,” he added with a suggestive waggle of his eyebrows.
There wasn’t one drop of saliva left in her mouth but as enticing as the proposition was, and she wasn’t above admitting it was extremely enticing, it could never happen. “Thanks but no,” she responded with more composure than she felt.
“Your mouth says no but your eyes say yes.”
Her skin felt like it crackled as fury slithered over her. How he’d managed to survive for as long as he had without someone killing him completely mystified her. She may be the one to remedy that by the time she was able to free herself from him. “Believe me that’s not what my eyes are saying,” she bit out.
“Murder and passion are a fine line, no?”
“Ugh!” she shouted. She threw her hands up, turned on her heel and stormed into the kitchen. Peanut butter cups and Mountain Dew weren’t going to be enough to take the edge off.

Teaser 1, Frost Burn

For the first teaser from Frost Burn, Book 1 in The Fire and Ice Series, I thought I'd give you the whole prologue! Enjoy!

PROLOGUE

Fire and ice licked over her flesh. The fire was due to the pain lancing through her body from the knives driven through the palm of her hands and her stomach. It felt like the fire was consuming her, burying her within its raging depths, devouring her very soul. The ice, well the ice was from the weakness stealing through her and dousing the fire beneath it.

The sensations were so overwhelming and contradictory to each other that they briefly doused the shrill screams of those around her. Her family. Tears slid down her cheeks. She jerked at her hands but the knives had been buried deep into the wood floor beneath her. Blood trickled down from the wound on her right temple, and the slice down the center of her chin. Pinned down, she could only lay helplessly as she listened to the dying sounds of those she loved.
Like some kind of ghoulish painter throwing paint at a canvas, blood splashed across the family pictures hanging on the wall and one of the many screams went abruptly silent. Shock wearing off, she jerked against the blades securing her to the floor. She had to get to her family, had to try and save them somehow. A scream of frustration and agony burned in her throat. The fire licked back over her body as she strained to tear her hands free of the knives. She tried to arch up in an attempt to dislodge the one in her stomach but a wave of blackness washed over her, threatening to bury her within its depths. Panting heavily, she fell back on the floor. She couldn’t pass out; it would be certain death if she did.

A tsking sound from her right caused her to turn her head in that direction. She blinked back the blood, sweat, and tears clogging her lashes and blurring her vision. “Such a shame.” She shrank away from the hand brushing over her forehead. “Such a fighter.”
A man’s face loomed over her. A face she knew she’d remember for the rest of her life, for however long that might be given her present circumstances. “Shh child,” he murmured as he continued to brush her hair back. “It will all be over soon.”
His blue green eyes swirled with malicious glee, his wide nostrils flared as he inhaled the scent of the blood pooling beneath her. The high arch of his cheekbones gave his face a rat-like appearance which she found completely appropriate for this horrible monster. A mole at the corner of his left eye had a long, creepy hair curling from it. His thin lips pulled back to reveal his lengthy, razor sharp fangs.

A cry of protest escaped her but she could do nothing to stop him from driving his fangs into her throat. More fire lanced over her skin as she fought against the monster pulling her blood from her body, but even as the heat crept in so did the ice. Weakness slipped into her limbs, up through her belly and toward her chest.

She wasn’t ready to die, she’d finally started to live, but just as she couldn’t escape the knives pinning her body to the floor, she couldn’t escape this monster feeding off of her in greedy, slurping pulls. The ice crept further up, dousing the fire beneath its crushing flow. She wasn’t ready to give in but she had no choice in the matter as her heart began to slow. It gave a dull beat before pausing for endless seconds then pumping again.

The monster above her pulled away and wiped the blood away from his mouth. “Delicious,” he purred before rising to his feet and walking away.

It was only after he’d gone that she realized how quiet the room had become. Her family. She felt the overwhelming need to cry but she didn’t have the energy to muster a single tear. She could only stare at the blood-coated photos across from her as her breathing became shallower and her heartbeats further apart. The distant murmur of voices drifted to her but she couldn’t make them out as the ice slid up to her neck. She heard the click of the door closing and realized the monsters had left but it didn’t matter. Nothing mattered anymore as the ice encompassed her, her heart finally stopped beating, and the world went completely black.
